A My Turns Article
I see stories in people. In every observation and exchange, I'm looking for the stories that make them who they are. If I can hear the stories that create you, sustain you, and shape you, then I can know you. I am trained in narrative ethnography, in participating in people's stories, in observing the way they tell about their experiences, and in creating a written account of what I've seen. I understand and embrace the idea that narrative allows us to better appreciate and comprehend those we share our world with. This is the framework that accompanies me on my life's travels, and it is the framework I took with me when I embarked upon an odyssey that would profoundly impact me: my two year ethnography of Dalet Shalom, a Messianic Jewish congregation.
When is the Shemittah year?
Submitted by: Daniel Gregg, March 3rd, 2009 Topic: Messianic Forums
Those of us who grow gardens and farm farms will need to know when the Shemittah (Sabbatical) year is! The current opinion is based on the work of Benedict Zuckermann from the 1800's. Popular sentiment is that the last Shemittah was Tishri 1, 2007 to Tishri 1, 2008...
Fanatical Students Don't See Racism

On Friday, Washington indicated it will follow Canada's lead and boycott Durham II, barring some last-minute yield on the resolution. How disappointing this must be for the first black U.S. president – withholding America from an international conference ostensibly about racism... 1 comment

Kristallnacht and Its Aftermath within the German Church
Submitted by: Ahava, February 25th, 2009 Topic: Israel Forums
The horrors of Kristallnacht were a moment of rejoicing for Bishop Martin Sasse, head of the Protestant church of Thuringia. A night that brought riots, looting, beatings and widespread destruction of synagogues and Jewish property seemed to fulfill Sasse’s hopes: the Nazi regime was finally ridding the Reich of Jews.
Sincere questions that I would appreciate input :)

An Objective View on Messianics...from a Jerusalem Post Writer
Submitted by: josiah, February 18th, 2009 Topic: Messianic Forums
A thousand Messianics, many of them Jews born to Jewish mothers and fathers, were gathered at night in a kind of safe house, singing to Jesus. They didn't seem threatening, they seemed innocent and vulnerable. Out of the public's sight, they were giving voice to their freedom of religion... 3 comments
Church & Worship / Encountering Anti-Semitism
Submitted by: Robin, February 13th, 2009 Topic: Messianic Forums
Funny things can happen when people, sometimes close to you, or not, find out that you’re jewish, eventhough you are worshipping as any other born again believer. At times, I have felt that I need to tone down my jewish pride, then think that I’ve been a sell out in doing so. At present, I’m worshipping at a Pentecostal church with my gentile boyfriend and have found the people to be quite welcoming for the most part. 2 comments

Has "Messianic Judaism" proven ineffective in evangelizing Jews?
Submitted by: josiah, February 1st, 2009 Topic: Messianic Forums
Despite their founders’ incessant denials and their unceasing attempts to worm these institutions into the mainstream Jewish community, these "synagogues" have almost always been rightly perceived to be Evangelical Christian Churches in the guise of Jewish houses of worship....

A couple accused of letting their infant daughter die by relying on prayer, rather than medicine, today asked that the charges be dropped, arguing that they infringe on their freedom of religion and their right to raise their children in their own way. 4 comments
What Have Others Said about Jesus?
Submitted by: MissEmma88, December 8th, 2008 Topic: Community Forums
Napoleon said, "I know men and I tell you that Jesus Christ is no mere man. Between Him and every other person in the world there is no possible term of comparison. Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne, and I have founded empires. But on what did we rest the creation of our genius? Upon force. Jesus Christ founded His empire upon love; and at this hour millions of men...
Lord of the Dance
Submitted by: rebeccatotilo, November 3rd, 2008 Topic:
We all have a dance in us. That dance is an expression of God within us, complimenting His kingdom. Unfortunately, many dance to the captivating sound of the prince and power of the air, while others are enslaved to the primal dance of their own carnality. Some even become ensnared by the dance of religion, chained to legalistic maneuvers which keep them far from the heart of the Father.

Letter from recording artist, Aviad Cohen
Submitted by: ksas, August 13th, 2008 Topic: Messianic Forums
You want to know why they loved me as 50 Shekel? Because I was naive, confused, Scripturally ignorant, Zionistic as opposed to a praiser of Yahweh instead of a praiser of Yiddishkeit and Judaism, I was their puppet to keep Jewish children in religious confusion and to continue instilling false pride. But now, I read the Scriptures and see their hypocrisy is not in alignment with the Tanakh... 16 comments
