Thoughts on Obama's Cairo Speech?
As many Muslims see hope in American President Obama’s speech in Cairo, some feel he didn’t make enough concrete promised or plans to improve the Muslim situation in the Middle East. On the flip, many Israeli’s are not comforted by his direct opposition to natural development of settlements in the West Bank nor Israel’s objections to a two-state solution with the Palestinians. This is something that Binyamin Netanyhu has publicly criticized the president on and refused to halt natural growth in Jerusalem.
While President Obama re-confirms America’s alliance and friendship with Israel, it appears he’s giving "tough love" to his country, something that may be unfamiliar to America’s best friend of 50 years. So it appears that Israel is fighting their battle by themselves against the rest of world, which is a good thing that they have the strength to stand by their beliefs and won’t budge, not even for America, on their claim to what is rightfully their – the land of Israel.
