Is the Messianic Movement Growing in Israel?

In Israel, a resurgence in the number of Jews who believe in Jesus, know as Messianic Jews, is getting a lot of attention. It is the opinion of many leaders that the growth is the strongest it’s been since Yeshua and some believe that the Messianic movement could be on the verge of a great revival. Leaders feel that that it is the first time where the Israeli society in general is so open to consider who Yeshua is and is considering Him as the Messiah.

Although Yeshua and the early disciples were Jewish, for nearly 2,000 the Gospel has been viewed as being mainly for Gentiles. Even the name Jesus or Yeshua has been a forbidden word among many Jews. But in the last few years, something important in Israel  is happening.

"I believe with all my heart, after we have come back to the land, we are seeing the Lord, the Holy Spirit, is removing the veil from the eyes of the Jews and more and more Jews are realizing," Tel Aviv pastorAvi Mizrachi said.

For the first time, the secular media are saying something, even mentioning Messianic Jews in a more favorable light. A recent wave of persecution, including the bombing of a young Jewish believer, have put Messianic Jews on the front page.

Although the exact number of Messianic Jews lkiving in Israel is not officially known, it’s been projected that there are around 120 congregations established now and roughly 10,000-15,000 Jewish believers. Although these numbers may appear low considering Israel’s six million Jewish citizens, it’s a vast improvements from 10 years ago, when there were only about 3,500 Jewish believers and only 80 congregations.
