Bush's Trip to Israel: What do you think?
U.S. President Bush wrapped up a two-day visit to the Holy Land to help celebrate it’s 60th anniversary. While visiting Israel, he made quite an impression on his Middle East political campaign and made his message loud and clear: America will stand with Israel. There’s no question about that.
While some criticize his "desperate" attempts to create some sort of legacy before his January 2009 exit from the White House, many support his strong alliance with Israel and realize that President Bush sincerely meant what he said. Israel may feel all alone facing the huge Arab world, but Bush made it very evident with enthusiam that America is right next to them. With his politically career almost to an end, he is not attempting to campaign and say the right things. He was sincere, honest and showed his true integrity. Despite who may follow him in the Oval Office, it is evident to most that the character of the President will be unequaled and there has never been a better friend to Israel.
Some noted Bush quotes from his visit include:
"The Jewish people endured the agony of the pogroms, the tragedy of the Great War, and the horror of the Holocaust – what Elie Wiesel called ‘the kingdom of the night.’ Soulless men took away lives and broke apart families. Yet they could not take away the spirit of the Jewish people, and they could not break the promise of God."
"Yet in spite of the violence, in defiance of the threats, Israel has built a thriving democracy in the heart of the Holy Land. You have welcomed immigrants from the four corners of the Earth. You have forged a free and modern society based on a love of liberty, a passion for justice, and a respect for human dignity. You have worked tirelessly for peace. And you have fought valiantly for freedom."
"Israel’s population may be just over 7 million. But when you confront terror and evil, you are 307 million strong, because the United States of America stands with you."
"The alliance between our governments is unbreakable, yet the source of our friendship runs deeper than any treaty. It is grounded in the shared spirit of our people, the bonds of the Book, the ties of the soul."
"Some people suggest if the United States would just break ties with Israel, all our problems in the Middle East would go away. This is a tired argument that buys into the propaganda of the enemies of peace, and America utterly rejects it.
"My country’s admiration for Israel does not end there. When Americans look at Israel, we see a pioneer spirit that worked an agricultural miracle and now leads a high-tech revolution. We see world-class universities and a global leader in business and innovation and the arts. We see a resource more valuable than oil or gold: the talent and determination of a free people who refuse to let any obstacle stand in the way of their destiny."
"This is a bold vision, and some will say it can never be achieved. But think about what we have witnessed in our own time. When Europe was destroying itself through total war and genocide, it was difficult to envision a continent that six decades later would be free and at peace. When Japanese pilots were flying suicide missions into American battleships, it seemed impossible that six decades later Japan would be a democracy, a lynchpin of security in Asia, and one of America’s closest friends. And when waves of refugees arrived here in the desert with nothing, surrounded by hostile armies, it was almost unimaginable that Israel would grow into one of the freest and most successful nations on the earth."
"Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before…we have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."
Israeli President Peres Reflect on President Bush
Israeli President Peres summarized his thoughts on President Bush’s speeches, saying, "If any Israeli has any doubt to the value of Bush’s remarks, he should try and listen to them with Arab ears, then he will understand the power of the speech. The message was that we are not scared of you, we are more than you, we are stronger than you and don’t think you can do whatever you want. The strongest message was that we are 307 million, not two isolated nations of seven million and 300 million. Don’t forget, he is now going to Saudi Arabia, an Arab country. He knows exactly to whom his words are directed,. He sent a strong and unequivocal message of peace."

eliahu commented on June 22, 2008: I'm thinking that its too easy and convenient for the Scripture believing community, supporters of Israel, to tout, and so easily rally behind the kind of political rhetoric embodied in phrases like, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Its an "a priory" conclusion straddling the reasoning process and ultimately dismissive of all questionable policies and actions perpetrated in the name of G-d in the guise of support of His people or even Israal's well being. In the case of this Administration, my peers in the faith have been most dismissive of anything unfavourably representative of his war politics and antics. Yet have heaped accolades on him for his very immediate pro-Israal rhetoric. And though illegal and questionable issues surrounding his Administration continue to surface, little attention is given to such or to any reflective thoughts on the long term consequence of his Middle East policies and what they will provoked against Israal's interest in the future.... The argument is that he has attempted to secure a peaceful and strong future for Israal, but I'm convinced that this Administration's policies in the Middle East have been and if continued, will be the most humongous deception and mistake our nation could have made before G-d and man for our future well being of Israal's. His deeds have already relegated America to a role in end-time political dynamic which are tantamount to the policies which shall be enacted by the schemes of the AntiMashiach at his rise to power. For this Administration's misinformation tactics and its rush to UN-provoked war with Irak, its "sabre rattling" and its brute force implementation of high tech goal objectives, will be paralleled in the strategy style of anti-Mashiach when he betrays Israal's trust. Our Administrations actions have not been morally neutral, the effects of his policies will go away, but remain to blotch and defaced America and the Western Coalition nations before a Holy G-d..... and in the eyes of an Islamic confederacy. The wise will be prudent and understand. It is more accurate to say that the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend, even if at the time of our special alliance that enemy of my enemy appears to be a friend or an angel of light. I do not think that Bush has done Israel any favours by kicking the hornets nest in the Middle East nor by strutting proudly in the face of Abraham's other children. Instead his policies have destabilised the region for Israel, the Middle East and for America's future interests in particular the westward flow of middle eastern oil! He has polarised the Middle East dynamics against the west even as the Scriptures describe. And in the end, American will seek its own interests and forsake my Israal for an alliance with the Arab states and in appeasement of its western coalition. After eight years this Administration's bloodshed and destruction in Irak, has assured Israel of no greater security than when the war first began. Yet he continues to assert an arrogant aspiration which makes it more evident to those in the region that U.S. policy for Israel and surrounding nations is nothing more than an aspiration to wield and manipulate, suppress and control the regional oil resources. His alliances and actions in the Middle East have demonstrated only his feigned understanding of the region and and it is not a Biblical one. It demonstrates the impotency of his objectives in cultivating a controlling presence of advantages for Israal. His alliance with Israel has been rich in potentiality, but remains anaemic in actuality as also in its long term effects and consequences for Israal's future standing in the region. U.S. policies in the Middle East exist to promote dividends on every U.S. dollar invested in the region. As iot has been said: "We give aid to Israel to maintain its security in a very tough region and a very important part of the world in order to advance critical U.S. interests." (Ester Kurz) |

John Diff commented on June 06, 2008: Re: Eliahu bnZohar - From a political perspective, I could not disagree with you more. Bush has done more good for the nation of Israel than any other single person on the face of the earth. Bush has supported Israel, even when Israel has not supported herself. While it is true that Israel is facing hard times, such are not the result of Bush's actions. The partisan nature of American society should not influence our perspectives on the issues facing Israel. |
Eliahu bnZohar commented on June 04, 2008: With a glib tongue Bush spoke to the American people and seduced us into war, just as it will be with the "little horn" who will come with his glib speech to seek our destruction. Heb 7:25 IMO, Israal's greatest survival threat comes not from a confederacy of Arab-Islamic States set on evil against us, but from a coalition of the West with the US playing a principal role. The Iraki war is a foreshadowing of the that type of deception which will carry out its agenda in the hopes of a desired goal. Israel, after all will be a weighty stone to bear and a stumbling stone to the smooth negotiations between Western and Arab-Islamic interests. |
hisamy commented on May 30, 2008: Anytime any political leader supports Israel I am pleased. So many wish to abandon alliances formed due to political pressures in the age of gas wars and terrorism. It is refreshing to hear such a positive stand for Israel. |
