Did Carter do anyone any good?
Do you think that former U.S. President Carter’s attempt at peace and talking with Hamas did anyone any good?
Carter visited the Middle East this past week in hopes of talking with Hamas leaders in the Gaza about reaching a peace agreement with Israel. This peace process is not unfamiliar to Carter, as he was the main facilitator of the Eygpt-Israeli peace process during his term as President.
Some claim his meetings with these Palestinian leaders furthers the allegations that Carter is an overt anti-Semite. In 2000, Carter very publicly quit the Souther Baptist Convention in a letter explaining his opposition to it’s doctrine. The Southern Baptist Convention, with over 75,000 nation-wide members, is very vocal in its support and love for the state of Israel. Secretary of State Condolezza Rice stated that the United States did not support former President Carter’s visit.
